Hillcrest Hospital

Hillcrest Maternity Hospital / Home- The Salvation Army

North Fremantle

The Salvation Army operated Hillcrest Hospital for over 50 years, closing at the peak of Western Australia’s forced adoption era in 1974. Most adoptions were facilitated in a private capacity, with Perth solicitors. As a consequence the availabillity of records are disapointingly limited for both mothers and adopted people.

WA survivors of forced adoption report that obtaining records from this organisation is incredibly difficult. Evidence from the WA inquiry supports this experience, in that the TSA and solicitors destroyed patient documents or claimed that paperwork were destroyed by fire or flood.

However, some documents may be held with the WA Department of Communities.

We encourage you to try all avenues.
